MERIMEE PROSPER: (1803-1870) French Dramatist, Historian and short story Writer. Best known for his novella Carmen which became the basis of Bizet´s opera with same name. A good A.L.S., Pr. Mérimée, two pages, 8vo, Paris, 5th December 1859, to a friend, in French. Mérimée refers to an appointment which his correspondent is expecting, and states in part `I come back from Spain passing by Compiegne. I write today to the general director, who I know a little, not as much as I would have liked. I tell him what you have done for us, what you can do for him. I am sorry that I have no relation at all with Marshal Rendon, although I think that if Mr. Davrican recommends you, it´s done.´ Further Mérimée explains that he will be travelling the day after to Cannes and that he will contact few more persons who could help him.
