ALEXANDROVICH ALEXEI: (1850-1908) Russian Grand Duke, son of Tsar Alexander II, and brother of Tsar Alexander III. A fine A.L.S., Alexis, six pages, 8vo, n.p. [St.Petersburg], Saturday, 4th June [1894], to Countess Orloff, in French. Alexei thanks his correspondent for her letter and apologizes for the delay in responding and states ´The idea of the removal has no more attractive than the wedding one for me, and I vegetate in my kitchen garden, smelling the new roses and thanking heaven for the small sunlight sent.´ further saying `You are right, dear Countess, denying gossips about my august person, whose modesty aspires only to be forgotten!!´ The Grand Duke concludes referring to other members of the Imperial family, stating `The Heir is just gone, radiant, to England, and we will only know, once he is back, the exact date of his wedding. Regarding my niece´s one, it is still fixed for end of July. That is a likeable date to me because it also means your return, which will please all the ones who love you, and above all to me! Please send all my regards and best souvenir to Admiral Duperré and to my Parisian friends
