ORLOV NICHOLAS: (1827-1885) Russian Diplomat, notable for his humanitarian interest in his country's internal affairs. As Military, he lost an eye being 27, during the Crimean War. A.N.S., L. Orloff, one page, 12mo, Brussels, 18th April 1868, in French. Orlov, Russian Ambassador in Brussels, states `Come at home tomorrow Sunday evening at 9h30, to listen to Rubinstein who is promising us his visit..´ The letter bears at the heading a blind embossed crown seal with Orlov´s initials N.O below. With blank integral leaf. Together with L. Orloff, A.L.S., L.Orloff, one page, small 8vo, n.p., n.d., to `My dear Prince´, in French. The letter bears at the heading a large blind embossed seal of L. Aucoc elder - Appointed Goldsmith to His Majesty the Emperor, Paris, stating `Would you please deliver to the bearer of the present message the seal with coat of arms.´ VG £150-200
