[CHAGALL MARC]: (1887-1985) Russian-French Artist. Four A.Ls.S., (`M.C´, `M.Chagall´, `M.Ch´, M.Chagall´) by Bella Rosenfeld, first wife of Chagall, on behalf of her husband, two pages each, two 8vos and two folios, dated in Paris between February 1931 and October 1933, to Mr. Ridder, in French. To the 6th February 1931 letter, Chagall states in part `I have just received the visit of Charles Biguele who, according to his visiting card, is the manager of the Esther Surrey Galleries at La Haye. He has proposed to me an exhibition at his gallery. I have never exhibited my works in Holland.´ further requesting information from his correspondent regarding the gallery its natural light, and the exhibition in Holland before taking a decision. The second letter refers to an article he wishes his correspondent to write for a Tel Aviv publication. On the third letter Chagall requests again his correspondent´s help asking him to contact most of Belgians collectors who still have one of his works and check if they would accept exhibiting them, and states `I have a proposal of great exhibition from the Kunsthalle of Bale, for next autumn, including all my 25 past years works, pre-war and post-war ones. They will make an important effort contacting private collectors from all over the world to achieve such project.´ To the fourth letter, dated 21st October 1933, Chagall refers again to the Bale exhibition stating `I am so sorry that last day we met I didn´t show you my new paintings…If you could come to Bale to see them! It is my first important exhibition because there will be 200 of my works and from all periods from 1907 to 1933. I am sorry that we could not hold the exhibition somewhere else.
