BARTHOLDI FREDERIC AUGUSTE: (1834-1904) French Sculptor, famous as the designer of the Statue of Liberty. Book signed and inscribed, being a hardback folio edition comprising three articles in French relating to Bartholdi, originally published in the weekly periodical Galerie Contemporaine, 1883. The illustrated articles are interspersed with three original sepia 9.5 x 13 photographs published by Goupil & Cie, each depicting works by the sculptor, Rouget De Lisle, La Liberte Eclairant Le Monde and Le Lion de Belfort, and the volume also includes a list of Bartholdis works from 1853-83. Signed and inscribed by Bartholdi to the front free endpaper, A Georges Glaenzer, souvenir affectueux de son ami devoue, Bartholdi. Bound in half morocco with gilt stamped title and date to the cover and with marbled endpapers. An unusual signed book with an interesting association. Binding loose at the spine and the cover rubbed and with some overall age wear and light staining, the inside pages with some light staining and age wear, a few small tears to the lower edges of two pages and with some slight, minor wrinkling. G, £800-100
