PIUS VI: (1717-1799) Pope of the Roman Catholic Church 1775-99. A very good content L.S., Pius P.P. VI, a bold signature, three pages, 4to, Vatican, 13th January 1793, to Your Royal Highnesses, in French. Pius VI, as Pope, refers to the note received with the testimonies of his correspondents and states `If we have held firm till now, facing last events, it has been to accomplish our duties that our double position as Head of the Church and Sovereign require..´ further saying `Now we are troubled by the new and unfair threats..´ and `The most important thing for us is that we keep alive the King your nephew. And for this reason we pray continuously the Lord and holy Apostles so he, and his illustrious and innocent blood, will never become the prey of these upset ferocious beasts..´ Pius VI concludes sending from deep in his heart his Apostolic Paternal blessing. Some overall age wear with light foxing and folds. Few very small holes to the last page, some to the bold ink signature. G £1500-2000
