HANDY W. C.: (1873-1958) American Composer & Musician, - HANDY W. C.: (1873-1958) American Composer & Musician, considered the Father of the Blues. A good T.L.S., W.C.Handy, one page, 4to, New York, 3rd December 1957, on his personal printed stationery, to Mr. Hartman. Handy thanks his correspondent for his greetings on his birthday and states in part `The Mayor of this great city proclaimed November 10th through 17th as Handy Weel and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers sponsored a dinner as a tribute to me and for the benefit of the W.C. Handy Foundation for the Blind, Inc. The dinner was held in the Waldorf Astoria Grand Ballroom with a thousand diners listening to Paul Whiteman´s orchestra and many artists. After the Invocation, telegrams were read from Pres. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Vice Pres.
