KRETSCHMER OTTO: (1912-1998) German naval Officer, Submariner during WWII. Nicknamed ''Silent Otto''... - KRETSCHMER OTTO: (1912-1998) German naval Officer, Submariner during WWII. Nicknamed ''Silent Otto'' for his successful use of the ''silent running'' capability of the German U-boats. During eighteen months, 1939-41, Kretschmer sank 47 ships, and for this feat he was awarded with the Knight´s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. A good signed 3.5 x 5.5 postcard photograph, the Hoffmann image, from Munich, depicting the Captain of Corvette Krestchmer, in a head and shoulders pose, wearing his naval military uniform, with insignia of the Nazi eagle and swastika. Signed in bold dark ink, to a slightly dark area of the image. Kretschmer adds the word `Jung´ (''Young'') alongside his signature. VG
