Well-remembered for his infamous Drownings at Nantes (`Noyades de Nantes´). After the fall of Robespierre, Carrier was tried for war crimes, sentenced to death and guillotined. Rare multiple L.S., Carrier, one page, 4to, n.p., [Paris], n.d. [1794], in French. The letter is written and also signed by Louis Turreau de Linieres, and by Albert Ruelle, all members of the National Convention, and states in part `We, deputies, declare and undersign that during our stay at the Vendée we have recognized citizen La Chevardiere, former vice-President of the Paris department, as a very good patriot, and we have not found any thing which would identify him with opposing the Republican government..´, further referring to additional reports on La Chevardiere´s patriotic behaviour. The document bears to the heading a red ink stamp. Small overall age wear and foxing stains, with slightly uneven edges. G
