Vintage signed sepia 4.5 x 6.5 photograph, the oval image depicting Cronje in a head and shoulders pose. Photograph by A. L. Innes of St. Helena and bearing their credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('P. A. Cronje') by Cronje in dark fountain pen ink to the lower border. Very slightly irregularly trimmed to the edges and with some light surface creasing, G Cronje had surrendered at the Battle of Paardeberg in February 1900 and was subsequently taken to a prisoner-of-war camp on Saint Helena where he was to remain until 1902. The present photograph dates from this period.
