CARPEAUX JEAN-BAPTISTE: (1827-1875) French Sculptor and Painter. A boldly written A.L.S., `J.Btte Carpeaux´, two pages, 8vo, Paris, 29th May 1868, in French. Carpeaux states in part `According to your wish, I have written now to Count van Nieuwerkerke. I have announced to him that you have sorted an official request in order to obtain for the Museum of Versailles a bronze or marble proof of the Prince statue..´ With blank integral leaf. VG Count Alfred Emilien O'Hara van Nieuwerkerke (1811-1892) French sculptor of Dutch descent. He is also remembered as the lover of Princess Mathilde Bonaparte.
