HEINE HEINRICH: (1797-1856) German Poet, Writer & Literary Critic. A.L.S., Henri Heine, in the third person, to one side of a plain oblong 12mo visiting card, n.p. (Seine-et-Marne?), n.d. (between 1802-34), to an unidentified recipient, in French. Heine wishes his friend a good day and adds 'I hope to have the good fortune of finding you at home another day, or perhaps to see you at Lagrange'. Some very light, extremely minor age wear, VG The Chateau de la Grange-Bleneau is a 14th century castle in the Seine-et-Marne district of France and was the home of the French aristocrat and military officer Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834) from 1802 until his death. In his work French Affairs Heine described Lafayette as a 'master of ceremonies' worshipped by the French as their idol, writing 'They adore him as a kind of Providence on horseback, an armed tutelary patron of public peace and security, as a genius of freedom', also observing that Lagrange was 'very charming'.
