A RUSSIAN KHOLMOGORY BONE CASKET, 18TH CENTURY
Rectangular body on bracket feet. Hinged stepped lid. Overlaid with intricately carved walrus bone panels, some over metal or mica panels, and a carved design partially tinted with green pigment.

Kholmogory, Northern Russia - 18th/early 19th Century
Dimensions: 6 x 3 5/8 x 4 in., (15 x 9.3 x 10 cm.)
Condition: Key is now missing. Horizontal line of separation and small losses to the rectangular panel on the domed lid. Two feet with partial losses to bone inlay. Microscopic scattered losses, consistent with age. Interior is lined with paper partially torn.
