A GREEK SILVER AND NIELLO PENDANT WITH ICONS OF SAINTS, 18TH CENTURY
A Greek pendant of silver and niello with depictions of two saints. On one side is St George on horseback, with his spear piercing the dragon. The other side is St. John the Forerunner, known as John the Baptist in the West, in the form of a winged angel holding his head in a basket. Each Saint has their name inscribed in Greek above them. The pendant is hung from a silver chain.
Ottoman Greece, 18th century.
Dimensions: D: 2 1/2 in., (6.4 cm.)
Condition: Some minor fading, a nice patina throughout. Some minor oxidation to the rim. Chain has one link replaced with wire. Some oxidation to links throughout.
