This is an exceedingly rare Haggadah, a Chassidic treasure which to the best of Genazym’s no other copy is known in any private collection.
his Haggadah, which was the second Haggadah with a Chassidic commentary ever printed. It was preceded only by the Chelkas Binyamin Haggadah (Lemberg, 1794) which appeared one year earlier.
Rabbi Chaim Gavriel Bloch (d. 1820), Av Beis Din of Koniv, was the son of the Admor Rabbi Yosef Bloch, a disciple of the Maggid of Mezritch, author of Ginzei Yosef. Rabbi Chaim Gavriel was a great Chassidic scholar who also authored Amira Ne’imah (Pod Brezitz, 1803). In his present commentary on the Haggadah, he repeatedly cites his father’s sefer Ginzei Yosef which he brought to print. Rabbi Chaim Gavriel’s granddaughter married the Admor Rabbi Yissachar Berche of Nadvorna, founder of the illustrious Nadvorna dynasty (and son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Leib of Nadvorna).
The sefer opens with an endorsement by Rabbi Yissachar Ber of Zlotchov, author of Orach Chaim and another disciple of the Maggid of Mezritch.
The present Haggadah includes a lengthy commentary on the songs “Echad mi yodeiah” and “Chad gadya”.
