Archive of a Jewish German model-builder, who built models for exhibitions, architects and more.
Archive of Willi Salomon, a native of Cologne, Germany, who immigrated to Palestine in 1935 following the rise of the Nazis.
Salomon also worked in Germany as a designer of shop windows, shops and backdrops, and built miniature models and worked for both private businesses and organizations such as the Jewish National Fund, and the Zionist Organization of Germany. He designed for the Palestine Exhibition in Germany in 1934, and built a model of the Bialik House for the "Bialik Days" exhibition in Berlin in 1935.
He was active in Israel until at least the 1960s, collaborating with Otte Wallisch, Rudi Weissenstein, Machner and others, building scale models of Kfar Batya, Mishmar HaEmek, Hod Hasharon and other communities, along with a variety of other works.
The archive includes: 1: 8 documents and 6 photographs from his period of operation in Germany in the 1930s, including showcase designs he created.
2: 35 photographs of his actions in Israel, mainly model photographs. Includes a joint photo with Otte Wallisch, Machner, Rudy Weissenstein and others, and a large photo of a huge wooden crate, apparently sent to the New York by the JNF with a "Machner Wallisch" stamp on it, and one Salomon holding it.
3: A box with 12X9 cm glass negatives, most negatives of Salomon models/
4: A large package of newspaper clippings in German, that include information about his works, as well as his brother Max Salomon, a cabaret artist and important Jewish humorist, who fled the Nazis to the United States.
