Since the 1960s, Peter Struycken (b. 1939) has been one of the foremost artists in the Netherlands. His artistic work is amply represented in the collections of almost every important museum of modern art. He has also realized hundreds of commissions, including major projects in public space, colour palettes for a diversity of applications and the standard Dutch postage stamp with the portrait of Queen Beatrix, which he designed for the Post Office as far back as 1980. His most renowned large-scale works include the arcade lighting (1993) for the Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam, a building designed by architect Jo Coenen, and the tiling and colour scheme for 'De Struyck' student flats (1993) in The Hague, a building designed by Carel Weeber. This publication offers a comprehensive overview of all Struycken's work from 1955 to the present. There are illustrations of more than 80 of Struycken's most significant monumental projects and autonomous works, each accompanied by an entry with relevant information. Various authors explain Struycken's methodology as well as the underlying theories and concepts regarding colour that underlie these projects. A DVD is included with the book, so that readers can experience a number of Struycken's key monumental works in 360-degree panorama photos, shot in spectacular fashion by Carel Struycken.
