Engraving; 425 × 535 mm (sheet). Impressive view of the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg, surrounded by wide moats and bastions, with a complex system of gates and bridges giving access to the enclosure. Inside, the dense network of streets and blocks is punctuated by the large parish churches and the Rathaus complex. In the foreground are canals and locks with boats, warehouses and installations of the historic saltworks—an activity that sustained the city’s prosperity—as well as tree-lined roads and cultivated land. Shields adorn the sky; in the centre, an ornamental cartouche bears the title LVNEBORCH.
