*4, **2, A-Z, Aa-Bb4; [12], 200 pp.; 205 mm.

SECOND edition of this important review of aspects of city life in Lisbon, “One of the first statistical essays carried out among us, covering not only the demographic aspect, but also the industrial, commercial, religious and charitable aspects of the city of Lisbon” (pref. of the 1908 edition).
In this second edition, Manuel da Conceição added a Supplement covering the current state of the city of Lisbon, a Letter from Father Tomas Caetano de Bem, about some Roman monuments at the Pedras Negras site; a letter to the members of the Jornal Estrangeiro de Paris, giving an account of the city's most famous artists and writers.
Regarding the reasons for the rarity of this edition, Inocêncio tells us: “the shop of the bookseller and publisher Manuel da Conceição, located on Rua do Loreto, was one of the many that burned down during the earthquake of 1755: hence the lack of several works, which he owned, and which were consumed by the flames, with only the copies sold up until the time of the catastrophe being saved”.
Very rare.
