Second edition of the Portuguese translation. The original edition in German is entitled Portugal Erinnerungen aus dem Jahre 1842, published in Mayence in 1843. Bernardes Branco gives the first edition of the Portuguese translation as printed in 1842, but it seems to us to be an error, since publication would be unlikely of the translation in the year to which the reported events relate. He says he has never seen any copies of the original edition. Prince Licknowsky was a brilliant Prussian soldier, ceasing to be so in 1838 to follow the banners of D. Carlos, to whom he became aide-de-camp. Returned to Germany for two years. After a visit to Portugal in 1842, he took his seat in the Parliament of Frankfurt in 1848, having been assassinated that year on the occasion of the armistice with Denmark. Rare.
