"Board and council members of the Halva'a veChisachon", Jerusalem on the occasion of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the institution, 1944, photographer: A. Kovatch Jerusalem.
Halva'a veChisachon associations constituted the first public banking institution established in Eretz Israel and the second to operate there (after Anglo-Palestine Bank). The associations were later called "Kupat Halva'a veChisachon" (Loan and Savings Fund) and "Bank Halva'a veChisachon" (Loan and Savings Bank). The bank assisted many pioneering enterprises with credit, financing and the allocation of expert advice. Mordechai Ben Hillel HaCohen was one of the founders of the Jerusalem "Halva'a veChisachon" Agudah Hadadit Ltd., which operated as a bank in Jerusalem on the corner of Ben Yehuda Street and Ben Hillel Street (named after the bank's founder in Jerusalem).
