PRISONNIERS DE GUERRE - "Prisoners of War" an album of drawings of difficult scenes documenting the crimes of the Germans against French prisoners in the Wittenberg camp during the First World War. Published by Jean-Pierre Laurens. Paris, 1918 - first edition
16 large drawings created by Jean-Pierre Laurens of harsh scenes from the Wittenberg POW camp during World War I - standing in line for food, threats, humiliation, beatings, punishment, the "Final Letter" scene of a dying prisoner, and more. In the foreword of the booklet "In Memory of the Comrades Who Died by the Enemy" in which the editor describes the arrival of French prisoners in the camp, the prisoners heads shaved, and The Germans tattooed their heads in case one of them tried to escape, so when caught, they would know they had escaped from the camp, the Germans forced the captives to salute and remove their hats every time they passed them by, and details the abuse of prisoners in the camp. Most of the prisoners in Wittenberg were ordinary French and Russian citizens, and not necessarily soldiers.
