Marguerite Neuhauser Shafer (1888-1976) Oil on canvasboard, signed lower right “Marguerite Neuhauser”, measures 9 x 12 and 10 x 13 w/ frame. Born in Washington DC, 1988 to Robert Augustus Phillips and Mary Imogene Barbour, Marguerite Phillips N. Shafer was a painter and teacher at the Abbot Art School in DC where she organized numerous fine and commercial art exhibits. She also painted frequently in Gloucester and the Cape Ann area of Massachusetts as well as in DC.She was married to Roy Neuhauser in 1910, and Dr. George Shafer in 1938.She died in Washington, D.C. on June 14, 1976.
