A richly decorated 17th century German Saxon miner's guild axe of characteristic form. - Item details Description A richly decorated 17th century German Saxon miner's guild axe of characteristic form. The hand forged iron head with visible lamination of forge layered structure and stamped with the blacksmith's marks. The wooden handle is entirely inlaid with bone inserts, the bone plates are richly engraved with religious and secular images. The pommel is carved from a finely engraved section of bent antler and finished as a button. On one side is probably depicted Johann Georg II (Elector of Saxony 8 October 1656 - 22 August 1680). On the other side there is a hammer, a pickaxe and the date 1677. A wonderful collector's item, in good condition. Length 91 cm. Condition Good condition Dimensions Height 91 cm / 35.8 in
