Russian Empire 19th C. - Item details Description Caucasian Dagger Kama, With monogram (VKMN), Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich. Russian Empire 19th C. Straight steel blade with one fuller on each side. At the base of the blade there are Cyrillic letters VKMN inlaid with gold. The bone hilt is decorated with engraved geometric designs. The metal parts of the handle are decorated with gold using the kofgari technique. The wooden scabbard is covered with black leather and has iron fittings decorated with gold using the kofgari technique. Damage to the scabbard at the bottom, see photo. Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich (1832 - 1909) - the fourth and last son of Emperor Nicholas I, military leader and statesman, the emperor's governor in the Caucasus. A similar monogram on the blade suggests that it belonged to the Grand Duke, but it could also have belonged to one of the prince's guards. Blades with Monogram MN are found on Caucasian weapons, and it cannot be said that all such blades belonged to the Grand Duke. A wonderful collectible. length 42 cm.
