An important large size Hunting Sword with a carved lion's head, France, 17th Century. - Item details Description An important large size Hunting Sword with a carved lion's head, France, 17th Century. Wide, flat, double-edged blade with two stamps on both sides of the forte. Brass hilt, the quillon-block decorated with bas-relieved foliage, short quillon bent towards the blade, ending in the shape of an eagle's head, smooth guard; grooved wooden grip, fine pommel carved in the shape of a lion's head. Spheroidal button. A very rare, early hunting sword in excellent condition. Provenance: Czernys International Auction House, October 03, 2010, Lot 2199. Length 99 cm.
