Wiktor KORECKI (1890-1980) ”Winter landscape”, oil on canvas, Signed ”WIKTOR KORECKI” lower left. - Item details Description Wiktor KORECKI (1890-1980) ”Winter landscape”, oil on canvas, Signed ”WIKTOR KORECKI” lower left. Wiktor KORECKI, Ukrainian-Polish landscape painter. He was born in Kamianets-Podilskyi, Khmelnytsky region. Studied at a school in Kiev, graduated from the Kiev drawing school of M. Murashka. Later he returned to Kamianets-Podilskyi and in 1921 he went to Warsaw. In the inter-war period he exhibited his works at the Society of Fine Arts in Warsaw. After the Warsaw Uprising (1944), during which his studio burned down along with the works collected there, he lived in Pruszków, from where he was deported to a labour camp in Leipzig. In 1946 he settled near Warsaw. He painted romantic landscapes of Mazovia (a historical region in the centre of Poland). The influence of Jozef Chelmonski and Jozef Rapacki can be seen in his works.
