Two Original Antique 18th Century Prints - The Times (Plates I and II) by William Hogarth (1697-1764) who was an English painter, engraver, pictorial satirist, social critic, cartoonist and art critic. These two prints (perhaps his finest work?) caricature political corruption and conflict during the reign of George III and the Seven Year War. Plate I "Published as the art Directs Sept 7th 1762" and Plate II "Published May 29th 1790 by J & J Boydell, Cheapside & at the Shakespeare Gallery, Pall Mall, London. Plate I was first published during William Hogarth's lifetime however Plate II was suppressed by William Hogarth and was not published until many years after his death by John Boydell in 1790, both prints having been adhered to blue card at some point in their past. Both of these prints have recently been conservation mounted using neutral plastic non contact archival mounting strips and corners (see photographs), another piece of mount card has then been bevel cut to hide the bits of the print you don't want to see, display the print at its best and make it ready for framing or display as it is (see photographs). As the mounting strips and corners are non contact to the print, these processes are reversible with no damage to the print. Finally, the mounted prints have been wrapped in cellophane to protect them further. The prints are in good condition (see photographs) and the overall size of each of the display mounts is approx 45.5cm x 40cm. nice original 18th Century Hogarth prints, conservation mounted, should sell well. We combine postage on multiple winning lots and can ship worldwide. UK postage from £5.99, EU from £7.99, Rest of World from £9.99
