The Comic History of England (with) The Comic History of Rome (Three Volumes) by G. A. A'Beckett with illustrations by John Leech, From Julius Caesar to George II, published by Bradbury, Agnew & Co, undated edition but date of publication believed to be circa. 1870 (possibly 1890's). Gilbert Abbott a Beckett (1811-1856) was a well known English humourist and claimed he was a descendant of Thomas A'Beckett. All three volumes are hardbacks with no dust wrappers, all approx 18cm x 25.5cm. All three volumes are nicely bound in matching blue / tan cloth with gilt lettering / front cover illustrations, rough cut pages with smooth gilt edge on top (see photographs) and contain numerous lavish colour plates and monochromes from steel engravings by John Leech. All three volumes show just very light signs of age / wear and are all in good condition good set of books, nice matching bindings but slightly later issue........... set of 3 retails £160/180ish.
