Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (VR); named to: No 4580 Cpl P Nolan 2nd VB SLR (2nd Volunteer Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment). The South Lancashire Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army in existence from 1881 to 1958. In 1881 the local units of the Volunteer Force were affiliated to the regiment and In 1886, the 9th Lancashire Volunteer Rifle Corps at Warrington and Newton, and the 21st Lancashire Volunteer Rifle Corps at St Helens and Widnes became the 1st and 2nd Volunteer Battalions of the regiment.
