A PAINTING ON COTTON WITH A BATTLE
Bali, early 20th century
The entire surface crowded with human and mythological characters confronting each other with swords and arrows, on the right side blazes a fire, wooden frame.
84 x 236 cm
Provenance: ambassador Gerardo Carante.
Painted in the typical Kamasan style, the scene is most probably inspired by the Ramayana, the Indian epic poem that was very popular also in Indonesia.
