The composition presents a stylized, graphic landscape featuring a winding road flanked by abstract, swirling organic patterns that evoke rolling hills or dense foliage. The use of a warm, vibrant color palette—contrasting oranges and reds with deep greens and black—creates a sense of both journey and atmosphere. Shimizu studied mokuhanga in Kyoto under the late master Tomikichiro Tokuriki and in Tokyo with contemporary printmaker Yoshisuke Funasaka, infusing her work with both traditional precision and a contemporary sensibility. Her work is deeply inspired by her natural surroundings, and this piece is an excellent example of her technical command over pigment and paper.
