The work features a dynamic interplay of primary colors—bold reds, yellows, and blues—balanced against deep forest greens and black. The central, semi-abstract figure appears as a silhouette in motion, surrounded by a chaotic yet harmonious flurry of thick, gestural color fields that evoke a sense of raw, childlike spontaneity and primal energy. The piece is hand-signed and dated “Appel ’77” in pencil in the lower right margin. It also bears a personalized handwritten dedication in the lower-left: “voor Jules Farber van Karel Appel 1977” (For Jules Farber from Karel Appel 1977), as well as the initials “e.a.” (épreuve d’artiste), identifying it as a rare artist’s proof outside the regular edition.
