Peter Fragiacomo - Landscape
Pietro Fragiacomo - Landscape - Trieste 1856 - Venice 1922 - Oil on cardboard 35x48 cm - Pietro Fragiacomo, born in Trieste in 1856, moved to Venice as a young man and began working at the Società Veneta di Costruzioni Meccaniche. After abandoning his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, he continued to paint under the influence of artists such as Giacomo Favretto and Ettore Tito. In 1880, he exhibited at the national exhibition in Turin and subsequently participated in various national and international exhibitions. His painting focused on the landscape of the Venetian lagoon hinterland, favoring less conventional and popular views than his contemporaries. In his paintings, the view became a means of expressing his state of mind, as evidenced in titles such as "Peace" and "Rest." In 1893, he gained recognition with "The Evening Bell," a painting depicting an evocative Venetian view at sunset. In the 1890s, Fragiacomo changed his style, adopting a more textural painting style and experimenting with the use of tempera with overlapping oil glazes. In 1895, he joined the organizing committee of the Venice Biennale, exhibiting regularly at the event. Throughout the twentieth century, he explored Art Nouveau influences and participated in national and international exhibitions. His vast output, estimated at about 500 works, is now dispersed among private and public collections. Pietro Fragiacomo died in Venice in 1922. His sister, Antonietta, was also a landscape painter, actively participating in the Venice Biennale and continuing her career until her unknown date of death.
