COLLECTION OF EGYPTIAN GREEN FAIENCE AMULETS
Late and Ptolemaic Period, Ca. 664 - 30 BC. A collection of four green faience amulets. The object on the left is a scarab amulet with a finely incised wing case details and a smooth, unadorned underside. Next to it, two Anubis amulets depict the jackal-headed god standing in a striding pose, wearing a kilt, with arms along the body. The amulet on the right represents Taweret, the hippopotamus-headed goddess, depicted with a swollen belly, pendulous breasts, and arms resting at her sides.For similar see: The British Museum, Miscellaneus Number, 1987.450, AN1896-1908-EA.580.Size: 35.4-51.5mm x 26.1-10.6mm; Weight: 33.6gProvenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
