RARE EGYPTIAN FAIENCE BASKET-SHAPED VESSEL
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC. A turquoise glazed faience vessel with a tapering lower section and a domed lid, both covered in closely spaced horizontal ridges imitating woven fibre. A stylised plant motif in black runs vertically in a cross-like arrangement along the body, consisting of a central stem with symmetrical branching elements extending in four directions. Sets of small perforations are placed near the upper edge of the lower section, possibly for securing the lid. For similar see: The Walters Art Museum, Accession Number 48.426. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement from Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
