HUGE EGYPTIAN BLUE FAIENCE WADJET
Ca. 1069 - 332 BC. A faience Wadjet, an ancient ocular symbol of protection, is enveloped in sky blue glaze and finely incised with the eye components on one side, with the pupil and eyebrow delineated in black glaze. A lateral drill hole perforates the eye amulet for suspension. For similar see: Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest, Inventory number 51.1057; Christie's, Live Auction 15502 Antiquities, Lot 34. Size: 40mm x 35mm; Weight: 12g. Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
