HUGE EGYPTIAN PALE GREEN FAIENCE USHABTI
Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC. A pale green faience ushabti, inscribed with a personal prayer of protection. The figure stands in mummiform with both hands crossed over its chest, each holding one of two symbolic agricultural tools used to work the fields of Osiris in the afterlife. A sensual countenance is comprised of almond-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose, thin lips drawn into a smile, a false beard, and cupped ears, all framed with a tripartite wig. Dense hieroglyphs surround its lower body to form a prayer for the afterlife. Size: 195mm x 55mm; Weight: 345g. Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex. M. H. collection, Kensington, acquired on the UK art market in the 1970s. This piece is accompanied by an authentication statement by Simone Musso, consultant curator for Egyptian antiquities at the Stibbert Museum, Florence, Italy, member of the Nuri Archaeological Expedition.
