SUPERB APULIAN RED-FIGURE POTTERY ASKOS
Attributed to the Workshop of the Baltimore Painter, Ca. 330-320 BC.A well-preserved red figure pottery askos, with a bulbous body and upright mouth, defined by a flat rim. Adorning the surface of the vessel is a seated woman dressed in thin peplos. Her regal appearance is enhanced by a white beaded. In her right hand, she holds a wreath, while her left arm extends in a gesture of offering with two bowls in her open palm. The reverse of the askos is decorated with an intricate palmette design. The decorative elements include flowers, wheel patterns, and circular patterns.Size: 205mm x 195mm; Weight: 940gProvenance: Property of a central London gallery, acquired on the US art market; Ex. Stephen Joel Albert (6 February 1941 - 27 December 1992), New York; thence by descent. [Inv. no. 4381].
