Boris Efimov or Yefimov, Russian, 1900 to 2008, an original ink painting on paper, Crises, depicting a caricature scene for the newspaper, Izvestia, 1972, illustrating that in the 1970s, a new economic crisis began in America, and mending relations with the USSR provided the US with a much needed respite from the Cold War. Signed and dated lower right. Inscribed in pencil, a Poem by Alexander Zharov, lower left. Boris Yefimovich Yefimov was a Soviet, Russian and Ukrainian political cartoonist best known for his critical political caricatures of Adolf Hitler and other Nazis produced before and during the Second World War, and was the chief illustrator of the newspaper Izvestia.
