Result of the work of Giovanni Lanfranco (1582-1647), Agustín Esteve (1753-1820) and Blas Ametller Rotlan (1768-841).
Inscribed below: ‘THE EXECQUIES OF JULIUS CAESAR. / By this name is known the original picture painted by Juan Lanfranco, which exists in the R.l Museo de Madrid: it is 17 feet and 6 Castilian inches long, and 12 feet and 5 inches wide. / It will be found in the Calcografía de la Imprenta R.l’. ‘J. Lanfranco painted it. - Agustín Esteve drew it.’ (On the left); ‘Blas Ametller engraved it in Madrid in 1822’ (On the right).

This print was commissioned by the Spanish National Chalcography from Ametller in 1820, a project that originated with the aim of engraving paintings of the Royal Palaces of the Spanish Crown. Esteve was entrusted with the drawing of this subject around 1795, with an initial project for Fernando Selma to carry out the engraving work.
