Oriental Candlestick, ca. 1900. Signed
A candlestick of a unique type consisting of a narrow candle holder, an intermediate circular dish and a hexagonal base. Both the perimeter of the dish and the base and floor are covered with silver-plated metal, the first two of which are decorated with small openwork leaves. There is a certain diversity of elements that harmonise this candlestick and make it difficult to classify: while the mixtilinear edges where the metal ends, decorating each of the sides of the hexagon, are reminiscent of oriental decorative typologies, the type of leaves with fingered palmettes is linked to European decorations found in different decorative arts works, for example, the openwork cups of Spanish and Italian swords from the 17th century. Made in the late 19th or early 20th century. A manufacturing mark, in oriental letters, can be seen on its base (see photograph).
Measurements: 12 x 11,4 cm.
