Pair of large floor-standing candlesticks, 20th century
Pair of large floor candlesticks in Neo-Gothic style. Wrought iron. Spain, 20th century. Each has a tripod base, a shaft decorated with small discs ending in a circular plate, and an upper part consisting of three levels of curved arms ending in floral elements, the third higher and finished in the form of a spike.
They are inspired by 15th-century Spanish lighting elements, specifically pieces known as ‘floridas’ or ‘de estilo florido’, which predate the development of openwork plates at the end of the 15th century.
