We can relate this work to the subject Sacrifice of Hernán Cortés' soldiers (called "The Sad Night") or the defeat suffered by Hernán Cortés' soldiers at the hands of Moctezuma's supporters between 30 June and 1 July 1520 on the outskirts of the ancient city of Tenochtitlan (today Mexico City).
